THE QUOTE: "on race day ... YOU do it, or YOU don´t

The Performance Power (P2) Team has started training for the 2008 season. JOIN coach Matt Haugen and your teammates as the P2 TEAM celebrates its 6th season of boosting triathlon and marathon performance power. Former USA Triathlon National Teams Coach Matt Haugen leads five (5) weekly P2 Team training sessions  that will  enhance  your movement efficiency, mental toughness, endurance, strength, and race day performance power. If you are interested in becoming a P2 TEAM member, come to 1 of our weekly training sessions, so you can meet coach Matt & your teammates:

TUESDAYS: 5:30 & 6:30PM: Track RUN
WEDNESDAYS: 5:30PM: Lake SWIM
THURSDAYS: 5:30 & 6:30PM: BIKE-RUN
SATURDAYS: 8AM: RUN & BIKE
SUNDAYS: 8:30AM: SWIM-BIKE-RUN

Coach Matt leads P2 triathlon  training sessions from January through Ironman Wisconsin (September), & a 10-week XP2 Strength & Endurance training program from mid-October to mid-December. P2 sessions are held at a wide range of outdoor & indoor Twin Cities venues.

P2 MINDPOWER TRAINING: race day confidence IS earned in practice. so treat your key workouts much like a race:  review your goals, & spend a few minutes visualizing your upcoming training session; after your warm-up, do not talk or get distracted by others - instead, get immersed in the task at hand; push your muscles & mind to higher & longer levels of discomfort, & do your best to stay relaxed while pushing yourself; after a successful key workout, affirm YOUR mental & muscle strengths, & talk to yourself in strong & confident terms; before the day ends, write your accomplishment in your training log, so that you can both cherish the day, & later look back on the day to affirm your season´s progression.

TRAIN YOUR MUSCLES and YOUR MIND:  JUST like swim, bike, & run skills training, mental training skills need to be a part of every practice: at the beginning, during the most fatigue-loaded part of your session, & as you end your practice. IT IS the daily, consistent, frequent practice of setting goals, focusing, using positive self-talk, relaxing, & visualizing that allows YOU to use your mindpower automatically on race day. so practice what you desire to become ... so that on your focus race day, you CAN DO IT again.

EPIC WORKOUTS  = EPIC RACES. P2´ers push themselves & their teammates at weekly team practices, & coach Matt is always present. There is a special energy & the right blend of motivation & competition when a team trains together. That is why the very best college & professional teams are at practice with their coach. An athlete needs to be pushed to faster paces & higher levels of discomfort in order to climb up the results page. When you know that you will train with your teammates & coach, you know that you have to expect more from your muscles & mind at practice. That is why P2´ers improve dramatically over time: they show-up at practice, they train with committed teammates, & their coach is there, watching them do it.

The P2 TEAM Tradition

The P2 Team has been training and racing together since 2003. Former USA Triathlon National Team coach, 2:23 marathoner, & 8:41 ironman Matt Haugen started the P2 Team so that twin cities runners and triathletes could find the expert coaching and teammates they needed for race day success. Our P2 team culture is positive, supportive, & inspiring. P2 teammates are in their 20´s through 60´s, and range in ability & experience from first time triathlete to Olympic Trials qualifier. Come to a P2 Team session & find our for yourself.

"SUMMER RULES"

10 rules to lead you UP the results page

#1: WRITE YOUR RACE SCHEDULE IN INDELIBLE INK.  systematic training plans, and physical & emotional peaks, are designed around firm race schedules.

#2:  FOLLOW ONE TRAINING PLAN. a plan that is carefully designed by a certified coach, & one that makes you stronger, faster, more confident, & mentally tough for your key race.

#3:  MAKE YOUR EASY DAYS EASIER. schedule 3 easy days each week, to promote recovery from, & to store-up physical & mental  energies for your key workouts.

#4:  AIM FOR SUCCESS IN KEY WORKOUTS. nail your key workouts to gain race specific confidence, & reinforce the skills & mental toughness that you will rely on on race day.

#5:  MEMORIZE KEY WORKOUTS BEFORE THEY START. know the specific goals & details of key workouts, so you can rest & fuel your muscles prior to the start, and use mental skills before, during, & after your key workouts.

#6:  PROCESS EVERY KEY WORKOUT. recall what you did well, affirm your physical & mental achievements specifically in a log, & set 1 goal that aims for future improvement.

#7:  LISTEN TO YOUR MUSCLES & MIND. tune into your physcial & psychological energy levels daily, so you know when to push a bit harder, or when to back-off in order to prevent an injury, illness, or mental burnout.

#8:  SHARE YOUR RACE GOALS CAREFULLY. personal goals are just that. keep control of your race day arousal, stress, & flow levels by telling a select few supporters your intentions.

#9:  DO NOT MAKE YOUR RACE PACE THE MAIN GOAL.  environmental conditions effect race speeds dramatially. instead focus on race effort & race place as you push onward. smartly pace, maintain mental composure, move efficiently, & talk to yourself in positive terms, as you focus on the present for 100% of the race distance.

#10:  EVALUATE ALL OF YOUR RACES. learn from your experiences, & record data & reflections that will enhance future race performances. and look within yourself to define your efforts, before looking at race results to review your place and time(s).  then write a few goals to direct future training efforts.
