P2 TEAM TRAINING SESSIONS: a powerful tradition
Coach Matt leads winter, spring, summer, and fall programs, because optimal health and athletic performance is the result of year round, consistent, fitness and sport-specific training. P2 athletes know that they can find their coach and teammates during any week of the year, and that the combined desire, spirit, and passion of the P2 culture provide a powerful source of motivation. P2 training sessions are conducted at a wide range of indoor and outdoor venues in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Coach Matt schedules sessions that allow P2 Teammates to train on the terrain and race courses that boost race specific fitness and confidence. The P2 Team home base is the PIT in downtown St. Paul, which provides indoor biking and running options, as well as easy access to the outdoor trails and roads that provide hills and Mississippi River views during run and bike workouts. Swim sessions are conducted at the College of St. Catherine in the winter and spring, and at open water venues during the summer. Summer training also includes P2 track training sessions at Macalester College. Coach Matt leads weekly P2 Team training sessions from January to September:
- TUESDAY 6:30pm RUN (& a 5:30pm session in June, July, & August)
- WEDNESDAY 6:30pm BIKE (in June, July, & August: a 5:30pm open water swim & transitions session)

P2 PROGRAMS: join our team at any time
WINTER: January, February, March
The P2 Team starts the year with the training of economy of movement, aerobic & muscular endurance, and mental skills. We swim, bike, run, cc. ski, snowshoe, cross-train, and weight train to build a strong aerobic base for spring, summer, and fall races.
SPRING: April, May
The P2 Team focuses on aerobic and muscular strength endurance, and mindpower training. Our swim, bike, and run sessions train race specific stamina and mental toughness. Expect to maintain the P2 tradition by climbing lots of hills in the spring. Coach Matt also leads a 4-day P2 Colorado Camp (P2CC) in late May, when the team trains their muscle & mental strength in the mountains.
SUMMER: June, July, August, September
The P2 Team emphasizes race pace economy and lactate threshold training, and schedules speed work and race tapers at the most appropriate time for your best race day finish. Some P2 marathoners & ironman triathletes extend their training into the fall.
FALL: October, November, December
The P2 Team is primarily in off-season mode in the fall, which starts and ends with a 2- week physical and mental rejuvenation cycle. Coach Matt leads the 10-week XPLORE P2 (XP2) PROGRAM from mid-October to mid-December, during which time the P2 Team discovers a wide range of Twin Cities outdoor venues that enhance our general fitness, endurance, and strength. P2 training includes weights, plyometrics, core body sets, hiking, running, biking, swimming, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and cross-training. As a result, P2 teammates start the year feeling strong, lean, and confident about next season´s race goals. Coach Matt leads 40 XP2 sessions in 10 weeks, which are primarily: TUESDAY & THURSDAY at 6:30PM, and SATURDAY & SUNDAY at 9:00AM.
